今天的一頁書又是有聲書，Chuck Lorre不喜歡節目的罐頭笑聲，親自訪問節目音效人員Bob Mesnik，Bob說The Big Bang Theory節目的笑聲都來自真正現場觀眾，不是罐頭笑聲，於是Chuck很不給面子地問Bob：”You feel overpaid? (你有沒有覺得薪水拿太多？)”

這一集整理很多詞彙，其實，只要是Sheldon開口說的英文，都不用學，因為幾乎都是專業術語，講了也沒人聽懂，用欣賞的角度即可

Crybaby

愛哭鬼

很多人擔心質子對撞會造成黑洞毀滅地球，Raj笑這群人是Crybabies：What a bunch of crybabies!

 

No Guts, No Glory

沒有膽識就沒有榮耀

這是有名的座右銘，Raj笑完Crybabies之後，告訴Leonard，若沒有膽識，哪來的榮耀；其實他才是最沒膽的

 

School of Pharmacology [fɑrməˈkɑlədʒɪ]

藥理學院

School在美國可以代表學院(college)或大學(university)；加州大學藥理學院(school of pharmacology)在物理研究所張貼，徵求試藥的自願者：The school of pharmacology is looking for volunteers.

 

加州大學藥理學院，準備測試一種新藥(a new medication)，需要測試對象(test subjects)，針對以下四種宅男最常見的病態：

 

Social Anxiety

社交恐懼症

對任何社交或公開場合感到強烈恐懼或憂慮的精神疾病

恐慌症

驚恐症是指一個人突然間感到對身體的不適感覺，產生強烈的恐懼反應

焦慮症的一種，罹患強迫症的人會陷入一種無意義、沮喪的重覆想法與行為當中，無法擺脫；比方劉德華一部老典影，孤男寡女，當女主角被Yahoo楊致遠追走之後，他關在家拼命刷馬桶，類似這種症狀；Obsessive, 著迷的，Compulsive, 強迫的

 

Briefs

訴訟書或(男女的)貼身內衣褲

Sheldon的辦公室出現大美女，似乎是一位律師，引起群宅男圍觀，Howard說，如果她願意，她可以任意檢驗我的訴訟書Brief，但是Howard用複數Briefs，變成貼身內衣褲：She's free to examine my briefs.

 

Droll

幽默愛搞笑的，特別是用搞怪的方式

原來美女大律師是Sheldon的雙胞胎妹妹，美女講笑話，不管好不好笑，都能令大家開心Delightful，只有Sheldon覺得不好笑，Howard稱讚她令人欣喜幽默愛搞笑：I think you're delightfully droll.

 

Not until tomorrow

反正明天才…

特別列出這句，比方，結婚典禮在明天，我們通常用肯定句，但是美國語法喜歡用否定句，比較生動，特別是要強調，「反正明天才舉行婚禮」，今天應該有空吧：If the wedding's not until tomorrow, why don't you stay with us tonight.

就這麼說定了

Leonard成功說服美女Missy今天晚上住在他們家裡：So it's settled. You'll stay with us.

大型建築

比方Big Building或者Big Bridge，Howard跟蹤美女Missy，所以知道她的車停在二號大樓的C層，嚇了Missy一跳：You're in structure 2, level c, right?

 

Quizzical ['kwɪzɪkl]

古怪好笑的

比方露出Quizzical的表情，表示你搞不清楚狀況，露出令人發笑的表情，小狗最多這種表情；Missy說她二年級的時候眉毛被Sheldon燒掉，媽媽幫她化歪七扭八的眉毛Crooked Eyebrow, Sheldon才恍然大悟說：我還以為是二年級的課程(the second grade curriculum)太難，把妳變得(render)古怪好笑：I just assumed that the second grade curriculum had rendered you quizzical.

50cc以下的小綿羊機車的引擎都是二行程，比較容易冒白煙；Howard吹牛說自己騎哈雷機車，Hog(哈雷機車的俗稱)，謊言被Raj戳破，什麼哈雷？明明是二行程機車，前面還要菜籃：Hog? You have a two-cylinder scooter with a basket in the front.

印度古性愛寶典，慾經，大約在三國時代到唐朝之間的作品；Raj居然舉這個例子來泡妞，頭殼壞掉

Leonard居然拿醃小黃瓜出來當點心招待美女，看到美女厭惡的表情，抱歉道：We don't entertain much. (我們不常招待客人)

私底下

Missy要私底下跟哥哥Sheldon談，Sheldon覺得很奇怪，從來沒人喜歡跟他in private：Should I talk to you in private?

 

Sheldon本劇名言：

Missy certainly has the symmetry and low body fat that western culture deems desirable. It's noteworthy, at other points in history, heavier women were the standard for beauty because their girth suggested affluence.

Missy的確有西方文化認為理想的勻稱和低體脂，值得注意的是，在歷史上有其他觀點認為，肥女人才是美麗的標準，因為她們的腰圍代表富裕

Wear off，磨損、消逝；輪到Raj上場約Missy，結果藥效退了，說不出話：Is your medication wearing off?

轉達或轉交給某人

Missy離開前，問Sheldon有沒有話要她幫忙帶回去給媽媽：Any news you want me to pass along to mom?

 

Rocket Scientist

太空科學家；大行家、大高手

這個詞通常是這麼用，It doesn’t take a rocket scientist，事情沒有你想像中的困難，不需要請太空科學家來幫忙；Missy從小就喜歡跟人說家裡悠一位天才哥哥是Rocket Scientist，大行家、大高手，但是Sheldon很不高興，她說Rocket Scientist只是Engineer，物理學家Physicist才叫Scientist

Sheldon告訴妹妹，不如說他是金門大橋的過路費收費員：I'm a toll-taker at the Golden Gate Bridge.

 

《本集劇情提要》

The Shiksa Indeterminacy/The Pork Chop Indeterminacy

難搞定的非猶太姑娘/豬排不確定性

This episode was originally aired as "The Shiksa Indeterminacy", but CBS now refers to this episode as "The Pork Chop Indeterminacy" on its website. Howard saying he would kill his rabbi with a pork chop to be with Missy, who was not Jewish (hence a shiksa).

這一集當初播放aired的時候叫"The Shiksa Indeterminacy"，但是CBS在網站上稱這集為"The Pork Chop Indeterminacy"，郝沃德告訴蜜西，為了她，他可以拿豬排pork chop去殺了他的猶太祭司rabbi，因為蜜西不是猶太人，所以說她是Shiksa(非猶太姑娘)

 

Sheldon introduces the guys to his twin sister, Missy, who all become attracted to her. Raj decides to take part in a drug trial to cure his inability to talk to women, and Leonard insists she stay with them at the apartment. The men predictably begin awkwardly flirting with her, causing Penny to come to her rescue.

薛爾頓介紹他雙胞胎妹妹蜜西給大夥認識，結果大家都愛上attracted to蜜西，羅傑決定參與take part in藥物實驗，治療他不能跟女生說話的問題，楞納德堅持要蜜西住在他們家裡，可以料想到，這夥人用很笨拙的方式去泡flirting with蜜西，於是潘妮過來解救她come to her rescue

 

Leonard convinces Sheldon to be protective of Missy so that he is more likely to win her heart over Howard and Raj, but Sheldon deems all three unsuitable to be with Missy.

楞納德說服薛爾頓去保護be protective of蜜西，以阻止另外兩位增加自己的勝算，但是薛爾頓認為deems他們三個都不配

 

Upon learning about Sheldon's plan to find a suitable mate for her, Missy confronts her brother, and Sheldon agrees to let Missy date whoever she wants after she kicks him in the groin.

當蜜西發現薛爾頓打算幫她找交配對象的時候，她當面質問confronts哥哥，薛爾頓於是同意蜜西想跟誰交往就跟誰交往，因為蜜西踢了哥哥小弟弟kicks him in the groin

 

Missy turns Leonard and Howard down.

蜜西拒絕楞納德和郝沃德的邀請

 

Finally, Raj goes to talk to Missy, and she seems interested in him, but the drug wears off and he is unable to speak to her, forcing Raj to leave defeated.

最後，羅傑找蜜西聊，蜜西似乎對他有興趣，但是羅傑的藥效退了wears off無法跟蜜西說話，迫使他失敗離開leave defeated.

Chuck: Sweetener, I see. So that's what others might call a laugh guy. Am I correct?

 

Bob: Yes.

 

Chuck: Okay. So on the Big Bang Theory, do you put mechanical laugh or artificial laugh at the end of a joke?

 

Bob: No.

 

Chuck: So the laughter the audiences hear at home that's the laughter real people of live audience?

 

Bob: You bet

 

Chuck: Okay. So what is it exactly that you do here?

 

Bob: Not much.

 

Chuck: You feel overpaid, Bob?

 

Bob: No, not at all.

 

Chuck: Do you think that would be funnier to have a big laugh at the end of it?
