Stalk，名詞「莖」， Stem，名詞「莖」，差異在？下圖是芹菜莖，Celery Stalk

Stalk用在以莖為主的植物，比方芹菜(celery stalk)、玉蜀黍(corn stalk)，Stem則泛指植物的莖或枝幹，如玫瑰花枝(rose stem)所以Stalk所代表的「莖」比Stem的「莖」粗大一點，多半也軟一點。

Stalk動詞，有兩種完全不同意思：
一，鬼鬼祟祟跟蹤，假裝自己是塊大暗樁
 
二，自信驕傲昂首闊步，兩條腿像高大挺拔的樹莖
 

兩種用法的判斷依據是，看後面有沒有受詞：
Stop stalking me! 有受詞，不要鬼鬼祟祟跟蹤我
She stalked off and left. 沒受詞，她大辣辣走開

Stalk，動詞「悄悄跟蹤、鬼鬼祟祟跟追」
Lionesses are stalking their prey.
(母獅子們悄悄跟蹤她們的獵物)

 
I was stalked by my fans every day.
(我每天都被我的粉絲追蹤)
The rapist stalked the victim that night.
(那天晚上強姦犯尾隨受害者)

美國和香港都有Anti-stalking Law，香港稱為「反纏擾法」，台灣稱「反跟追法」。但是自從有了Facebook，出現了網路版Stalking，所以有人笑稱：
If Facebook stalking burns calories, people would be thin and skinning.
(如果臉書跟追可以消耗熱量，大家都會又瘦又苗條)

Stalk，動詞「昂首闊步」，表現自信或傲慢。
to stalk away in disgust (不屑傲慢地走開)

【植物】Stem

動詞Stem，也有兩種完全不同意思：
一，阻止、遏止：比方吃草莓的時候會把莖拔掉，這個「去莖」的動作叫：stem the strawberries，引申為遏止。

 
二，起源於，stem from，莖再往前追溯就是根，追根究柢。

to stem the bleeding (阻止流血)

to stem the decline of (遏止…衰退)
