Be動詞，接觸英語的第一個字，多年下來，真的會用Be嗎？今天由英國老帥哥Hugh Grant(休葛蘭)主講~

封面故事：
I’m a happy ‘90s has-been.
(我是快樂的九十年代過氣明星 K歌情人)

電影K歌情人(Music and Lyrics, 2007)對七年級生特別有感覺，開場的那首POP根本就是80年代轟動全世界喬治麥可的WHAM!

電影裡，製作人找休葛蘭參加一個電視節目”Battle of the ‘80s Has Been”，邀請八十年代過氣歌星上台打拳Boxing，打贏的可以唱一首歌，休葛蘭說自己是快樂的過氣明星，而且強調是九十年過氣明星不是八十年

製作人：Some of the people we've approached have had a little problem with the term "has-been."
(我們談過一些歌手，他們對過氣這兩個字有點敏感)

休葛蘭：Have they? I don't share that. I am a happy has-been. Really.
(會嗎？我可不認同，我是快樂的過氣明星，真的)

休葛蘭覺得自己沒這麼老，續道：
We broke up in 1992, so technically I’m a ‘90s has-been, not a ‘80s has-been.
(我們樂團在1992年解散，所以技術上來說，我是九十年代過氣明星，不是八十年代)

【Be To】
Be to和Be going to都是未來會發生的事情，但是，意義不同：
I am going to tell her about it.
(我要去告訴她)
I am to tell her about it.
(我得去告訴她)

Be to是安排好的、帶有強制性的：
All factory workers are to wear uniforms.
(所有工人都必須穿制服)
You are to stay here. I’ll be back.
(你給我待在這裡，我去去就回)

【Was To】
現在的未來用Be to，過去的未來用Was to…
I’m as excited to marry you as I was to marry your sister.
(我娶妳就跟當初娶妳姐姐時一樣開心)

【Been To】
曾經發生過
I’ve never been to Europe.
(我沒去過歐洲)
Have ever been to climb up that mountain?
(你爬過那座山嗎？)

常用詞：I have been there.
我也經歷過、感同身受

諺語：Been there, seen it, done it
我沒興趣(以前都玩過了)
* 也可簡化為Been there, done that
Been there, done that. No man is worth seeing.
(男人我見多了，沒一個值得交往)

【Would Have Been】
不論是would have been或should have been，都是千金難買早知道，往事已成追憶，都沒有發生過！

It would have been you to be my boyfriend.
(本來你可以當我的男朋友的)
I should have been there with you.
(我當時應該陪妳)

【假設語氣的Was/ Were】

學校教的：

∂ 與現在事實相反的假設
If I were a boy, I would turn off my phone and listen to her.
(如果我是個男孩子，我會關上手機聽她說話 –碧昂絲)
∂ 與過去事實相反的假設
If it weren’t for you, I would have been on my own.
(要不是你的話，我現在一定是孤單一人)

社會上沒這麼嚴格，用was取代were：

∂ 與現在事實相反的假設
Live each day as if it was your last.
(把每天都當成最後一天來過 –賈伯斯)
∂ 與過去事實相反的假設
If it wasn’t for you, I would be on my own.
(要不是你的話，我現在一定是孤單一人)

如果把If省略掉，就必須用Were：

Were it easy, everybody would do it.
(如果很簡單的話，大家都會去做)
Were it to rain, the game would be cancelled.
(如果下雨，比賽就會取消)
Were Jobs there, he would have killed you.
(如果賈伯斯當初在，你就死定了)

【To-Be, Would-Be, Has-Been】

常用詞：something-to-be
即將成為Something，比方準新娘bride-to-be、準媽媽mum-to-be、準男友boyfriend-to-be

常用詞：something-would-be, would-be something
極有可能成為Something，不是必然，但是很看好
He is a would-be super star.
(他很有可能成為超級巨星)
Justin Bieber is a would-be tits pervert.
(小賈斯汀很有機會成為襲胸狂)

常用詞：has-been
過氣的人物
Michael Knight is a ‘80s has-been.
(霹靂遊俠李麥克是八十年代過氣明星)

【動名詞的Being】
Being，存在、生物、特質

常用詞：Come into being，出現、問世
This idea came into being during the ‘80s.
(這種思想在八十年代時問世)
