為什麼聽不懂英文電影？
多益和托福高分，看英文電影還是需要中文字幕，為什麼？電影阿凡達，上校Miles簡單的七句話，都是一般人的話，可就是聽不懂！

聽不懂英文電影的迷思：
∂ 不懂專有名詞：事實，專有名詞少，而且聽前後文就知道是什麼
∂ 不懂俚語：事實，俚語在電影裡即使全部「消音」，也不影響劇情
∂ 不懂深奧的詞彙：事實，電影是大眾化的，很少生難字眼

聽不懂英文電影的主因：
∂ 基礎生活字彙量不夠，甚至連美國幼稚園會的quack都不懂
∂ 對簡單字了解不夠深入，hammer，不只是槌子
∂ 忽視片語，see to it，這個菜英文，東方卻沒幾個人會用

封面故事：

上校第一句：
A recon gyrene in an avatar body. That's a potent mix. Give me the goose bumps.
(海軍陸戰隊偵查兵進入阿凡達身體，宇宙超級無敵組合，讓我全身都興奮)

∂ 這句聽不懂，不是gyrene和avatar，是單字不夠
* gyrene專用術語，海軍陸戰隊隊員，一般美國人也不懂
* recon 偵查，高中大學單字
* potent 強而有力的，高中大學單字
* mix 組合，國中程度單字
* goose bumps 雞皮疙瘩，幼稚園詞彙

上校第二句：
Such a Marine could provide the intel I need, right on the ground, right in the hostiles' camp.
(這樣的海軍陸戰隊可以提供我需要的情報，現場即時，直接深入敵營)

∂ 這句聽不懂，除了單字，對名詞片語on the ground和詞組 the hostiles’ camp不熟悉是主因
* Marine，海軍陸戰隊，高中單字
* intel，情報，intelligence簡寫，高中單字
* on the ground，名詞片語，事件發生地點
* the hostile，敵人，高中單字

上校第三句：
Look, Sully. I want you to learn these savages from the inside. I want you to gain their trust.
(聽好，我要你從內部了解這些野蠻人，我要你取得他們的信任)

∂ 這句聽不懂，除了單字，對名詞片語from the inside感覺不夠是主因
* savage，野蠻人，高中單字
* from the inside，名詞片語，來自內部，另一個on the inside，在內部
* gain，取得，高中單字
* trust，信任，國中高中單字

上校第四句：
I need to know how to force their cooperation or hammer them hard if they won't.
(我需要知道如何迫使他們合作，如果不從，要知道如何教訓他們)

∂ 這句聽不懂，是因為對單字了解不夠，force, hammer都可以拿來當動詞

Jake回答：
Am I still with Augustine?
(我還在Augustine下面工作嗎？)

∂ 這句聽不懂，第一是因為不懂with someone的用法，比方，I’ve been with Asus for five years now. (我在華碩工作五年了)，第二，被Augustine這個罕見的名字嚇到，以為是什麼了不起的羅馬大帝

上校第五句：
On paper. Yeah, you walk like one of her science pukes, you quack like one, but you report to me. Can you do that for me, son?
(名義上是，你有樣學樣跟這群噁心科學家，學他們鴨子呱呱叫，但是你對我報告，你辦得到嗎？)

∂ 這句聽不懂，第一是不懂on paper名詞片語，第二是不懂簡單的生活單字puke和quack
* on paper，名詞片語，書面上、名義上
* science pukes，噁心的科學家，puke，國高中單字
* quack，鴨子叫，美國小朋友都會

∂ 這句如果聽不懂，是對Hell這個強化語氣不了解，不是地獄，Hell yes，絕對的絕對、當然得當然

上校第六句：
Well, all right, then.
(嗯，那就沒問題了)

 
∂ 這句沒什麼疑問，倒是建議少用Well和You know，很多人以為說這兩個詞很酷、很老美，在老美的耳裡是，「你沒話說了吧！還要想…」，但是Well在這句沒問題，表示說話的人仔細考慮過對方的意見。

上校第七句：
So, I take care of my own. You get me what I need, I'll see to it you get your legs back when you rotate home. Your real legs.
(所以，這邊我來搞定，你幫我拿到我要的，等輪調回國，我負責弄好你的腿，一雙真的腿)

* take care of my own，動詞片語，我搞定我這邊的事情，不是自己照顧自己take care of myself
* see to it，動詞片語，類似take care of it, deal with it，特別留心
* rotate home，輪調返家，rotate輪流，高中單字

* 如果用否定句，can’t see…，無法想像、認為不可能，I can’t see him winning the game. 我認為他贏不了比賽
