今天主講Get基本用法

Get，除了本意獲得(Receive)、取得(Obtain)、帶來(Bring)，還引申出九種不同常用語法：

買(Buy)、賺(Earn)、使(Make)、強迫(Force)、變成(Become)、到達(Arrive)、了解(Understand)、回應(Answer)、感染(Inflict)

外加一個專題：Get you
Get you有五種意思：逮到你(Catch)、挺你(Get your back)、難倒你(Baffle)、煩死你(Annoy)、殺死你(Kill, Hurt, Attack)

(愛在心裡口難開 1997)

由於電影轟動的緣故，As Good As It Gets這句話被東方人美化了，實際上的劇情是這樣，知名作家Melvin(傑克尼克森)有心理疾病，一天，隔壁同性戀鄰居被打成豬頭住院，男朋友(小古巴古丁)強迫把小狗交給Melvin，並威脅他說：

You can intimidate the whole world with your attitude, but you don't intimidate me.
(你凶神惡煞的樣子可以嚇全世界的人，就是嚇不了我)

I grew up in hell, homeboy. My grandmother had more attitude.
(宅男給我聽好，我從地獄長大，我奶奶脾氣比我還要壞)

Melvin在威脅下開始養鄰居的小狗，想不到養出感情，對小狗越來越好。當鄰居出院回來抱小狗，”Let's go home and get well(我們回家過好日子, Get well是早日康復的常用詞)”，Melvin悲從中來，獨自在家彈琴，苦笑：Over a dog. (即get over a dog，忘懷這段小狗的感情)

隔天Melvin費盡千辛萬苦去找他的心理醫生諮詢，他的心理醫生覺得這個人太不講道理，轟他出去，Melvin大吵大鬧，憤而離去，在門診部跟等候看病的人說：What if this is as good as it gets?

意思是，我看出來之後病情反而更嚴重，這個醫生看來也「不過如此」、「頂多是這樣而已」，As Good As It Gets!

Get的本意，「獲得(Receive)、取得(Obtain)、帶來(Bring)」
∂ get a text message – 收到簡訊
∂ get a job/got a job – 找工作/得到工作
∂ get me a chair – 拿張椅子給我

Get引申意義之一，「買(Buy)」
∂ get the phone for $300 – 花三百塊買手機
∂ get it cheap – 便宜買到
∂ I’ll get the drinks – 飲料我買單

Get引申意義之二，「賺錢(Earn)」
∂ get TWD 22k a month，一個月賺兩萬二台幣
(金錢的讀法和寫法不同 US$ 22k, 讀音22k US dollars)
∂ get $10 an hour， 一小時薪水十塊錢
∂ get paid，得到報酬、領到薪水

Get引申意義之三，「感染(Inflict)」
∂ get a cold/get flu – 感冒
(flu不需要冠詞a)
∂ get food poisoning – 食物中毒

Get引申意義之四，「到達(Arrive)」
∂ get there by bus，搭公車到那裡
∂ get home safe，平安回到家
∂ get to Taipei，到台北

常用詞：Get this far…
走到這一步、到了這一步
* 有太深入、超過預期的含意

I didn’t know I would get this far.
(我不知道我會走到這一步)
When you get this far, you’re half way there.
(當你做到這一步，表示已經完成一半了)
Having got this far at work, it was disappointing to quit.
(工作都已經做到這裡，放棄實在令人失望)

常用詞：Get Somewhere
有所成就

I think we’re getting somewhere.
(好像有點結果出來了)
Everyone deserve a fair chance to get somewhere in life.
(每個人都應該有公平的機會在人生有所成就)
The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you’re not going to stay where you are.
(想要有所成就的第一步是決定不要留在原地)

常用詞：Get Nowhere
一事無成

I’m getting nowhere with this company.
(待在這家公司沒有前途)
I’m tired of giving my heart and getting nowhere.
(我厭倦給真心卻一無所獲)
I was trying hard, but it got me nowhere.
(我非常努力，卻一事無成)

常用詞：Get Anywhere
有所出息
* 大多用在否定句：won’t get (you) anywhere (沒用處)

If you can’t get your ideas across, the ideas won’t get you anywhere.
(如果你不能讓大家明白你的想法，這個想法就沒有用處)
If you don’t talk big game, you never get anywhere.
(如果你會不說大話，你也不會有什麼成就)
I didn’t seem to get anywhere.
(我好像無法有任何進展)

Get引申意義之五，「成為(become)」
Don’t get upset.
(不要生氣)
You will soon get bored with him.
(你很快就會對他不耐煩)
We’ll get old together.
(我們一起變老)

常用詞：Never Get Old
永遠不會過時、不會退流行

Honesty never gets old.
(誠實永遠不會過時)
This joke never gets old.
(這笑話百聽不厭)
Will Smith never gets old.
(威爾史密斯不會老)

Get引申意義六，「使(Make)」
* 用法：Get + Adjective(形容詞)

Get yourself ready in 10 minutes.
(十分鐘內準備完畢)
I don’t get tired.
(我不會累)

He got Naomi pregnant.
(他讓Naomi懷孕)
The movie Minions gets me super excited.
(電影小小兵讓我超級興奮)

常用詞：Get +Vpp(分詞)
* 把Vpp當形容詞

Get hurt，受傷
Get stolen，被偷
Get burned，燒毀、燙到
How’d it get burned?
(怎麼會燒掉了？)

Get killed，被殺害
Get caught，被抓
Get things fixed，把事情搞定
If we get caught, you’re deaf and I don’t speak English.
(如果我們被抓到，妳假裝聾子，我假裝不會英文)

Get引申意義七，「強迫(Force)、說服(Persuade)」
* 用法一：Get someone to do something
* 用法二：Get someone doing something

I’ll get someone to check it out.
(我會找人去看看)
I couldn’t get the engine to start.
(我無法啟動 引擎)
I tried to get her to stop smoking.
(我要她戒菸)

Get引申意義八，「接電話、應門(Answer)」
Can you get the phone?
(去接電話)
Get the door, please.
(去開門)
Let me get the door for you.
(我幫你開門)

Get引申意義九，「了解(Understand)」
Do you get me, sweetheart?
(親愛的，聽懂了沒有？- As good as it gets)
I don’t get it – it doesn’t make sense.
(我不懂，這沒道理啊)
I don’t think she got my joke.
(她聽不懂我的笑話)

【論Get You】

第一Get You：逮到(Catch)
* 賽車遊戲警匪追逐，警察在緊跟在後喊Get you! Get you! (快逮到你了)
* 過去式Got you有兩個意思，一個是做壞事被逮到，一個是我罩你(= I got your back)，由語氣決定語意

I got you, dude!
(老兄，被我抓到了吧!)

Don’t worry. I got you, baby.
(寶貝我罩你，別擔心)

The police will get you in the end.
(警察終究會逮到你的)

第二Get you：攻擊(attack)、傷害(hurt)、殺害(kill)
He got me on the chin.
(他揍我下巴)

I’m gonna get you for this!
(我會報復你)

We are coming to get you.
(我們要來要你的命)

第三Get you：煩(annoy)
What really gets me is how annoying you are.
(令我最煩的是你你太煩了)

第四Get you：難倒
You have got me there!
(你難倒我了)
* 常常在尾巴加上there：You’ve got me there!
* 口語上省略have：You got me there!
