Temper，名詞「脾氣、性情」
quick temper是壞脾氣(= bad temper)，不是急性子，急性子是impatient，但是急性子的人很有可能是quick temper：

My wife doesn’t have a short temper. She's just impatient to me.
(我老婆脾氣不壞，她只是對我比較沒耐性)

動詞Temper典故：
動詞的Temper和「脾氣」無關，和春秋的「干將莫邪」有關：
鑄劍的最後一道程序叫「回火」，英文Temper，把劍重新加熱、捶打、冷卻，這個「陰陽調和」過程可以讓合金分子均勻分布，大幅增加劍的韌性，於是干將老婆莫邪最後跳入火爐，成功鑄造兩把名劍，干將和莫邪，所以Temper有「緩和」「搭配」「加料」三種意思：

“干將” tempered the swords with “莫邪”.
(干將拿老婆莫邪當配料鑄劍)

Temper，動詞「緩和」
You may temper the tense situation with your lame joke.
(你可以講個冷笑話紓解緊張的氣氛)
The hot summer night was tempered by the rain.
(一場雨讓酷熱夏夜清爽了些)

Temper，動詞「搭配」「相輔相成」
Ambition is best tempered with knowledge.
(有雄心也得有知識來搭配)
Justice must be tempered with mercy.
(恩威要並濟)
A theory must be tempered with reality.
(理論必須有事實來相輔)

如果是Temper食物，加香料(spices)的意思：
I want the shrimps tempered with ground pepper.
(我要吃胡椒蝦)

動詞Temper有一個很特殊的意思，「回火」
回火是煉鋼的最後一道程序，把金屬重新加熱然後自然冷卻，目的是增加金屬的韌性(toughness)
Tempered steel，「精鋼」，沒有回火的鋼，又硬又脆，所以回火是鑄劍最關鍵過程
The blacksmith is tempering a sword.
(工匠在鑄劍)

Tempered glass，「強化玻璃、鋼化玻璃」，強化玻璃被擊破之後，會均勻碎裂成小塊狀

(iPhone專用強化玻璃保護膜)

Tempered chocolate，「調溫巧克力」；經過tempering處理的巧克力，結構穩定，不會碎裂，而且外表光亮
