** 常配合介係詞up，而且up放在root前面

Our failure rooted mainly in lack of funding.
(我們失敗的根本原因是資金不足)

 

Root，動詞「搜尋」
** 常搭配介係詞around, through, out等
I rooted through my backpack for my phone.
(我翻遍背包找我的手機)

 

Root，動詞「用腳或鼻子挖土找東西」，通常指豬
The pig is rooting in soil for food.
(豬翻土找東西吃)

 

常用詞：Root to the spot，釘住、嚇呆
They stood rooted to the spot when the dinosaurs came to life.
(當他們見到活的恐龍，都驚呆了)

 

常用片語：Root out，「根除」或「發現」

 
Xi determined to root out corruption in China.
(習近平決心要根除中國的貪腐)

 
Jiang will root out a solution to deal with Xi.
(江澤民會找出辦法對付習近平)

 

常用片語：Root for someone，「加油、支持」

 

** 為什麼Root for是加油呢？有這麼一說，豬用鼻子挖土找東西吃(root for food)的時候會不斷"呼噜噜"為自己加油，所以Root for someone就是用豬叫聲"呼噜噜"為人加油。

 

** 神鬼奇航男主角Will親了女主角之後，Jack船長安慰男配角: 「其實我一直都是支持你的」
You should know I was rooting for you.
(我跟你說，其實我一直都是支持你的)
